Concerns about public safety are being raised after notices were e-mailed announcing the layoffs of 10 patrolmen, a crime scene investigator and 12 detention officers in the Waterford Township Police Department. Demotion notices went out to 12 supervisors, according to a union official.

Between January 2009 and June 2010, MIT laid off 174 employees in an effort to cut the 2010 and 2011 fiscal year budgets by about $125 million collectively.
